The bulk of MHS (Chapters 5–10) talks about what is in between these points. The concept map is complex and will be valuable for readers, whatever their level of coding experience. About the Author

Matthew B. Miles, a social psychologist, had a career-long interest in strategies for educational reform. His work focused on planned change in education, group and organizational studies, and the dissemination and implementation of research findings. His first major research project was a four-year study of six new, innovative public schools.

A. Michael Hubermans long-term interests were in scientific epistemology and adult cognition and knowledge use. His work focused on education policy, school reform, and the practical translation of research knowledge into effective school practice. His first extensive project was a four-year study of an experimental elementary schools implementation of Piagetian theories into classroom practice..

Johnny Saldaña is Professor Emeritus of Theatre from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts School of Film, Dance, and Theatre at Arizona State University. He has been involved in the field of theatre as a teacher educator, director, playwright, and qualitative researcher.

            Saldañas research methods have been used and cited internationally for studies in K-12 and higher education, the fine arts, business, technology, social sciences, government, social services, communication, human development, sport, health care, and medicine. This was a great general book for looking at qualitative data analysis methodologies. I am writing the last two chapters of my dissertation and this was very helpful.

With two kids to provide for – one not even her own – and a whole load of other problems (including, but not limited to, bully neighbors, rude employers, and constant lack of money), Jess works her ars off at two jobs. She’s one tough gal, she never gives up, always bounces back, no matter what obstacles land in her path. But even this short and feisty Erin Bronkovitch-like woman is not unbeatable. She can’t always "sort things out", though God knows she tries her best.

Ed is a disaster of a whole different kind, and kind of of his on making. He’s not exactly filthy rich, though he’s definitely on the other end of the spectrum from Jess. His job is hugely profitable, he works alongside his best friend, his high-end home is regularly cleaned – and guess who is the cleaner? – and the only thing that he seems to be missing in his life, is love. Due to an unfortunate affair, he finds himself in a lot of trouble. Legal trouble. Very serious, potentially life-devastating trouble.

David Baldacci returns again this year with an exciting thriller, the third of his series featuring John Puller, a former war hero who is one of the best military investigators in the US Army’s Criminal Investigative Division. This time Puller is faced with one of the most dangerous and controversial cases of his career – to find a maximum security prisoner from the Leavenworth Military Prison who has made a miraculous escape and left an unknown dead body in his cell. The case is controversial because the escapee is Puller’s elder brother Bobby who was convicted by a military court of serious national security crimes.

The first couple of chapters about how the escape happened set the scene for an absorbing and exciting chase to work out how and why the escape happened and to find and arrest Bobby. What is surprising is that a trio of top military brass ask Puller to find his brother and bring him back for justice especially as Bobby has an almost eidetic memory of important military secrets. Puller soon finds that the whole thing reeks of conspiracy at the highest level with possible overseas influence within the security agencies of the US. Also he is soon not sure if Bobby was actually guilty of the crimes for which he was imprisoned.

Puller is normally a loner but he is forced to work with enigmatic (and of course attractive) US intelligence officer, Captain Veronica Knox who he has problems trusting. Of course she has problems trusting Puller, especially about how he will react when they finally hunt down his brother. The plot has many twists and turns and is great reading. As with other recent Baldacci thrillers the plot sometimes verges on the unbelievable but this time it doesn’t go over the believability barrier too much.
David Baldacci is a terrific storyteller and obviously a phenomenally successful author. He also happens to be a terrific guy who has used his success to support/establish charities. I had the chance to meet him when he traveled overseas to do book events on U.S. military bases in Europe. I have a lot of respect for him because I saw firsthand how he interacted with our military personnel and dependents.

Which is why it’s difficult for me to write a negative review for THE ESCAPE. But I don’t have a choice. This is not an attack on the author – it’s simply not a good book.

I like the book’s premise. Puller is a military investigator. His father is a military legend. His brother is a former soldier in a military prison for treason. Now his brother escapes from prison and Puller must track him down. That’s good – and I wish the book had stuck with that premise. But it morphed into a hundred other things, and the result was a convoluted mess.

I also thought the dialogue was terrible. It felt like the publishers went to print with an early draft of the book. On one page, Puller is yelling at Knox (the female he’s been teamed up with unwittingly to track his brother) that he can’t trust her because maybe she’s a spy, or maybe she has a secret agenda, or maybe a dozen other things … and then two pages later, Puller is all “Knox I’m on board with you, I trust you one hundred percent” … and then two pages later, “I can’t trust you!” … and two pages after that, “I’ll tell you everything because I trust you.”

It’s like a bad soap opera except it doesn’t end. It just goes on and on.

Then we go from a prison escape, to investigating why his brother was in prison to begin with, to conspiracy theories with bad guys who aren’t scary, just laughable.

The book itself is just OK. I personally wouldn’t use it except it is a required textbook for collage. I bought the Kindle Edition, which junk. There is no Table of Contents or Index for research in my class. The Kindle Edition is totally worthless in my opinion. I was able to pick up a used paperback copy for dirt cheap, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to complete my class with the Kindle version.

Deciding to get your Masters Degree at an advanced age has its drawbacks. #1 You have to learn new stuff. This includes how to do research. Don’t worry, if you brain has rusted shut. This book will help you get it all moving again. Well written and easy to understand. I have a great teacher and we use this book as well as Research Design by John W. Creswell. I think the two work well together in helping me understand how to look at the world through the academic eye of research.

If you are new to research and trying to understand what makes a "good" study, get this book! From the simple to use step-by-step analysis of research to the simple to understand discussions, this is a definite must read for the novice researcher! It lays out (in simple terms) the components of research and how to promote your own understanding of research. Great book!

EXCELLENT – lists details of each individual shooter. Very interesting material that draws you into the lives of these perpetrators and goes into detail of their actual or suggested mental health diagnosis coupled with the problems they faced during their lives. The book lists the differences and similarities of these people. A MUST READ.

It’s a good book, but the author has not personally interviewed or diagnosed the individuals about whom he writes. Therefore all mental health diagnoses are very educated speculations. Peter Langman does have expertise in this area, and he does admit that he has reviewed reams of records but has not personally worked with the shooters. It’s up to the reader to decide how to interpret the diagnoses/labels.

This is a highly detailed, well researched book on a troubling yet timely subject. It would be difficult to find a more thorough book on the subject of school shooters. Professionals in the fields of law enforcement, education and psychology should seriously consider reading this book.
