Since its publication in 1984, Louise Hay’s international bestseller You Can Heal Your Life has sold over 40 million copies worldwide. Now, in MIRROR WORK: 21 DAYS TO HEAL YOUR LIFE, the popular teacher and author offers the first book dedicated to her signature practice for personal transformation. The Mirror Principle, one of Louise’s core teachings, holds that our experience of life mirrors our relationship with ourselves; unless we see ourselves as loveable, the world can be a dark and lonely place. Mirror work—looking at oneself in a mirror and repeating positive affirmations—is Louise’s powerful method for learning to love oneself and experience the world as a safe and loving place. Like her successful video course, Loving Yourself, MIRROR WORK lays out a 21-day program of teachings and exercises to help readers deepen their relationship with themselves and live a joyous and fulfilling life. "Doing mirror work," Louise tells readers, "is one of the most loving gifts you can give yourself." Each of the 21 days is organized around a theme, such as monitoring self-talk, overcoming fear, releasing anger, healing relationships, forgiving self and others, receiving prosperity, and living stress-free. The daily program involves an exercise in front of the mirror, affirmations, journaling, an inspiring Heart Thought to ponder, and a guided meditation. Packed with practical guidance and support, presented in Louise’s warmly personal words, MIRROR WORK—or Mirror Play, as she likes to call it—is designed to help readers:• Learn a deeper level of self-care • Gain confidence in their own inner guidance system • Develop awareness of their soul gifts • Overcome resistance to change • Boost self-esteem • Cultivate love and compassion in their relationships with self and others In just three weeks, the reader can firmly establish the practice of Mirror Work as an ongoing vehicle for positive growth and self-care, and a path to a full, rich life.

This book is the foundation for changing my life. You don't realize you're changing unless you start doing the journaling; then you look back and realize how much this has actually changed your life.I think this is a very nurturing and simple process to address deep wounds in your life. It's quite woo-woo so if you're the practical, logical or science driven mind - it might be too much for you. This book requires you to come in with an open mind on her way of healing. A lot of it is spiritual....But if you can envision something beyond just the tangible world, if you can learn to be kind to yourself - it really does work.I read some of Lousie Hay's you can heal your life book and I found it a lot more condensed in thoughts to process. This book is great in that it focuses on singular pieces each day, giving you time to fully digest each and every piece throughout the day. It's also great to go back on your favorite affirmations once you've completed the book. This book overall is a great starting point to healing and clearing away all the old things in your life. I think of it as clearing away the old stuff in order to build a new foundation for yourself. I don't think you'll be fully healed and @ 100% if you read this but it will give you a great starting point to begin living a healthier life.Getting to know Me - see me, love me So far I've done two days & it's weird. First I thought "I seem like my mom - anxious" then I felt "I really have dark circles under my eyes." Well this isn't to say I'm critical - which was my first observation about these observations - but instead the first step to loving someone is seeing them. Sometimes when I visit my mom she'll tell me I look tired but I never know what to do with that info. I sleep alright. I eat mostly veggies & meditate daily & teach yoga & have a six figure salary doing what I love in my chosen profession - law - & I have community & faith & good health, I'm moving in with my boyfriend who ive known for 25 years & we are building a beautiful life together in a new beautiful city - so what's wrong? I hope that my mirror work leads me to identifying the patterns & habits that I should do more of toward creating a healthier happier self. I know I struggle with worth & religion saved me but ive never looked in my eyes to figure out what I really need. I wonder what will come out of seeing my self. Finally finished I bought this a few years ago. It took me this long to finish. It is a book you can do again and again. This time I decided not to overwhelm myself with mirror work, journaling, AND meditation. Imperfectly done is better than none at all. Life changing book. Love it!

The Design of Everyday Things Free Pdf

ISBN: B07L5Y9HND
Title: The Design of Everyday Things Pdf Revised and Expanded Edition

The ultimate guide to human-centered design.

Even the smartest among us can feel inept as we fail to figure out which light switch or oven burner to turn on, or whether to push, pull, or slide a door. The fault, argues this ingenious - even liberating - audiobook, lies not in ourselves, but in product design that ignores the needs of users and the principles of cognitive psychology. The problems range from ambiguous and hidden controls to arbitrary relationships between controls and functions, coupled with a lack of feedback or other assistance and unreasonable demands on memorization.

The Design of Everyday Things shows that good, usable design is possible. The rules are simple: make things visible, exploit natural relationships that couple function and control, and make intelligent use of constraints. The goal: guide the user effortlessly to the right action on the right control at the right time.

The Design of Everyday Things is a powerful primer on how - and why - some products satisfy customers while others only frustrate them.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

A UX Bible A UX researcher's or designer's bible. If studying human factors engineering, human computer interaction, or any other related field; your professors, peers, and colleagues will reference this book and Don Norman. I keep this on my desk at work and continue to use it when explaining heuristics to clients, engineers or data scientists.Conceptually interesting, somewhat poorly written. The overview of design principles described in the first half of the book are interesting. I certainly became more aware of the kinds of poor design choices outlined and certainly learned a few things that will be helpful in my communications and systems development role at work. The explanations of the psychology behind product interaction are, to me, poorly organized and explained. Further, if you've read any psychology or behavioral economics before, there's little to be learned here. Finally, the writing itself is fairly poor. I read nonfiction almost exclusively, so I don't think it's the technical nature of the content; it's just not very engaging. The personal anecdotes, as other reviews have noted, often feel forced and a little self-congratulatory. A better editor would have helped, too. There were quite a few instances of small annoyances such as using "less" where "fewer" was needed, or an overabundance of "as a result" towards the end.Essential for all Creators Its a good book with great examples. It does shed some light on the troubles with design and shows problems from another perspective and it should be rightfully considered as one of the key books regarding design in general. However, It's quite shallow and the author doesn't go into much of a detail. Don't get me wrong, I am not a literary critic or anything but as a European, the style is not a strong suit. People, who are used to the American style of literature are going to be fine, but sometimes there is too much repetition of ideas and a bit deeper analysis of the problem would be beneficial. To sum up. The contribution of the author in the field of proper and functional design is huge and the terminology used is crucial for understanding the key principles of design is paramount. But I would go into a bit more detail.

The Unwinding of the Miracle Download

ISBN: 0525511350
Title: The Unwinding of the Miracle Pdf A Memoir of Life, Death, and Everything That Comes After
Author: Julie Yip-Williams
Published Date: 2019
Page: 336

An Amazon Best Book of February 2019: Julie Yip-Williams’ memoir speaks to one of our greatest fears, that we would be diagnosed with a terminal disease, and to our greatest hope, which is that we could face life straight on, fully, without squinting, and live each day with honesty, ambition, and true feeling. She was born ethnic Chinese in Vietnam. As a young child, she had cataracts that rendered her nearly blind—her grandmother felt she would be a burden to the family and tried to have an herbalist end her life. When the family fled for the U.S., she was able to get corrective eye surgery in California. Still, she was declared legally blind due to poor vision. She earned her way into Williams College, attended Harvard Law School, married, and settled in Brooklyn with her husband and two children. Then at 37, she was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. For five years, she dealt with the disease, took care of her family, prepared them and herself for the future, and sought understanding by writing about it. There is hope, anger, fear, reflection, immersion in the everyday, and joy reflected in this book. The Unwinding of the Miracle seeks to express the truth about what it is like to face death--and to face life--and it succeeds masterfully. --Chris Schluep, Amazon Book Review “Eloquent, gutting and at times disarmingly funny . . . Yip-Williams writes with such vibrancy and electricity even as she is dying. . . . This memoir is so many things—a triumphant tale of a blind immigrant, a remarkable philosophical treatise and a call to arms to pay attention to the limited time we have on this earth. But at its core, it’s an exquisitely moving portrait of the daily stuff of life: family secrets and family ties, marriage and its limitlessness and limitations, wild and unbounded parental love and, ultimately, the graceful recognition of what we can’t—and can—control.”—The New York Times Book Review (Editors’ Choice)“Everything worth understanding and holding on to is in this book. . . . A miracle indeed.”—Kelly Corrigan, New York Times bestselling author of The Middle Place and Tell Me More“A beautifully written, moving, and compassionate chronicle that deserves to be read and absorbed widely.”—Siddhartha Mukherjee, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Emperor of All Maladies“Julie Yip-Williams lived a life defined by effort and incredible self-reliance. But in this searing memoir of increasing vulnerability, she dismantles and then reconstructs what it means to be triumphant. Her writing examines not only her disability and illness—and their cultural, medical, and narrative constructs—but love, authenticity, hope, egotism, even rage. I didn’t know Julie, but in these pages, I grew to love her.”—Lucy Kalanithi“When talking to my patients, I have always struggled to find the perfect balance between hope and honesty. While they are often thought of as opposites, Julie Yip-Williams reminds us they can coexist in a beautiful and meaningful way. In The Unwinding of the Miracle, we are treated to a beautifully written story that is also at times brutally candid about the realities of her cancer diagnosis and treatment. It is increasingly rare to find such an authentic voice, one that will inform and inspire you.”—Sanjay Gupta, M.D. “[When] Yip-Williams was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer at the age of thirty-seven in 2013, she decided to write her story, which resulted in this inspiring and remarkable work that chronicles her immigration to the U.S. and her final five years. . . . [Her] wise and moving account of her battle with cancer is an extraordinary call to live wholeheartedly.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

As a young mother facing a terminal diagnosis, Julie Yip-Williams began to write her story, a story like no other. What began as the chronicle of an imminent and early death became something much more—a powerful exhortation to the living.

“An exquisitely moving portrait of the daily stuff of life.”—The New York Times Book Review (Editors’ Choice)

That Julie Yip-Williams survived infancy was a miracle. Born blind in Vietnam, she narrowly escaped euthanasia at the hands of her grandmother, only to flee with her family the political upheaval of her country in the late 1970s. Loaded into a rickety boat with three hundred other refugees, Julie made it to Hong Kong and, ultimately, America, where a surgeon at UCLA gave her partial sight. She would go on to become a Harvard-educated lawyer, with a husband, a family, and a life she had once assumed would be impossible. Then, at age thirty-seven, with two little girls at home, Julie was diagnosed with terminal metastatic colon cancer, and a different journey began.

The Unwinding of the Miracle is the story of a vigorous life refracted through the prism of imminent death. When she was first diagnosed, Julie Yip-Williams sought clarity and guidance through the experience and, finding none, began to write her way through it—a chronicle that grew beyond her imagining. Motherhood, marriage, the immigrant experience, ambition, love, wanderlust, tennis, fortune-tellers, grief, reincarnation, jealousy, comfort, pain, the marvel of the body in full rebellion—this book is as sprawling and majestic as the life it records. It is inspiring and instructive, delightful and shattering. It is a book of indelible moments, seared deep—an incomparable guide to living vividly by facing hard truths consciously.

With humor, bracing honesty, and the cleansing power of well-deployed anger, Julie Yip-Williams set the stage for her lasting legacy and one final miracle: the story of her life.

Praise for The Unwinding of the Miracle

“Everything worth understanding and holding on to is in this book. . . . A miracle indeed.”—Kelly Corrigan, New York Times bestselling author

“A beautifully written, moving, and compassionate chronicle that deserves to be read and absorbed widely.”—Siddhartha Mukherjee, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Emperor of All Maladies

Read this book. I read this book in one sitting. Julie's message and story is one that will stay with me for a long time. My words are inadequate but it should only take reading a few of hers to know this book is incredibly important and everyone should read it.I'm glad to have read this I ordered and read this book because I've had Stage 3 cancer and I needed to know what this author had to say about her Stage 4 journey, in case I end up there. I am glad the author was so honest, especially about her resentments when comparing her fate to those of others. She died young and left two small children behind. Because of that, I feel sorrier for her than I do for myself. My kids are grown.I'm glad the author went into great detail about the treatments she pursued for her cancer, including the array of drugs. I declined all drugs except those used for surgery, but I am interested in others' decisions and how they feel about those choices later on. Stage 4, which is metastatic cancer, is a different ball game, and I could relate to the author's sense that many don't understand what Stage 4 means for survival chances. I've felt many people may be misled by the cheerleading for people who have had Stage 1 breast cancer, for example, while those with metastatic cancer and poor survival chances are kind of disregarded, even in "support" groups. The author seemed to feel that even some with metastatic cancer are not facing the reality of their situation and that they hold out unrealistic hope for beating the cancer even as they are at death's door. I'm not sure what to say to that. I know people who have survived Stage 4 for many years. What we tell ourselves is important. In the end, though, we are just left to wonder why outcomes differ. Books like this one help us gather some clues, perhaps. The book is a bit repetitive about the author's early experiences with being born blind and having family members almost kill her because of it. I feel these passages are repetitive because the book is really a journal, and these were things the author revisited a number of times to gain resolution as she faced her mortality.I was heartened to read her husband's contribution to the book. I'm glad to have read what they shared. Thank you.Moving and Honest A memoir you read and don't want to end, because it means the voice behind the words is silenced. Beautiful in its descriptions, brutal in its swings between acceptance and horror, and unflinching. Glad this writing was organized into a book by editors with a true belief in the project's importance.

The 48 Laws of Power Pdf

ISBN: 0140280197
Title: The 48 Laws of Power Pdf
Author: Robert Greene
Published Date: 2000
Page: 452

“Machiavelli has a new rival. And Sun Tzu had better watch his back. Greene . . . has put together a checklist of ambitious behavior. Just reading the table of contents is enough to stir a little corner-office lust.”—New York magazine   “Beguiling . . . literate . . . fascinating. A wry primer for people who desperately want to be on top.”—People magazine “An heir to Machiavelli’s Prince . . . gentler souls will find this book frightening, those whose moral compass is oriented solely to power will have a perfect vade mecum.” —Publishers Weekly   “Satisfyingly dense and . . . literary, with fantastic examples of genius power-game players. It’s The Rules meets In Pursuit of Wow! with a degree in comparative literature.”—Allure THE BESTSELLING BOOK FOR THOSE WHO WANT POWER, WATCH POWER, OR WANT TO ARM THEMSELVES AGAINST POWER . . .A moral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills three thousand years of the history of power into forty-eight well-explicated laws. As attention-grabbing in its design as it is in its content, this bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun-tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other great thinkers. Some laws require prudence ("Law 1: Never Outshine the Master"), some stealth ("Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions"), and some the total absence of mercy ("Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally") but like it or not, all have applications in real-life situations. Illustrated through the tactics of Queen Elizabeth I, Henry Kissinger, P. T. Barnum, and other famous figures who have wielded -- or been victimized by -- power, these laws will fascinate any reader interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature.

In the book that People magazine proclaimed “beguiling” and “fascinating,” Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum.

Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. In a bold and arresting two-color package, The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.

DANGER: read at your own risk there seems to be a lot of love and hate surrounding this book, so if you are curious but unsure, this review should help you decide whether or not to buy the book, and how it will impact youFirst, to understand the 48 laws of power, you must know two key ideas1. you CAN NOT escape the power game. thinking you can "not participate" is as foolish as thinking that you could somehow escape gravity or make the sun stand still. Robert Greene explains why in the intro with some excellent examples2. the 48 laws of power are neither good nor evil; they are just LAWS. If someone pushed a man off a cliff would you blame gravity for for his demise? This is the mindset you must adopt in order to learn a lot from this book.Things I Liked- NEW PARADIGMafter reading the 48 laws, you will never see the world the same way again. once you understand some of these laws you will see many underlying currents and motives you did not see before.- INCREASES POWERone of the main reasons to buy the book. you wil become exponentially more powerfull by knowing and understanding these laws-CRYSTAL CLEARevery law is clearly outlined with "transgression" of the law, "observance" of the law, keys to power, and a "reversal"-GREAT STORIESthe 48 laws are packed with mindblowing and sometimes humorous stories of people in history practicing these laws. this is helpful as some of the concepts are quite abstract. What I didn't like-RISKYan old proverb says " A man who plays with snakes will eventually be bitten". If you begin to use the 48 Laws improperly, you could get yourself in some dangerous situations, lose friends, piss off a lot a people, and destroy relationships- REQUIRES DISCERNMENTif you you are looking for a highly concrete book that the says "do xyz and you will accomplish vyx" look elsewhere. the Laws require good judgement and and and prospecting nature to practice and apply-NOT FOR EVERYONE If you are aghast at the idea of manipulation and deceit then read with caution.OVERALL: If you want to have more power or a better understanding of why different situations turn out the the way they do, you should definitely read the 48 laws of power by Robert Greene. If you want to be naive, easily manipulated, weak, you should ignore this book and go watch some netfilx. Thanks for reading
